Adult ADHD, private diagnosis and ongoing medication.

King George & Manor House Surgeries are sympathetic to the issues caused to patients by both the availability and long waiting lists for NHS Adult ADHD diagnosis and treatment.

However, as per Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board advice, King George & Manor House Surgeries will not enter into shared care agreements with private providers for ongoing Adult ADHD medication through NHS provision. This includes patients who have obtained a diagnosis using the ‘Right to Choose’ option.

Advice from Hertfordshire & West Essex Integrated Care Board (who commission healthcare services in this area) is clear. Patients who are seen privately should also obtain their ADHD medication that requires shared care, on a private basis. The British Medical Association also advises that “Shared Care with private providers is not recommended due to the general NHS constitution principle of keeping as clear a separation as possible between private and NHS care.” (General practice responsibility in responding to private healthcare.)
