Flu (Influenza) Vaccinations 2020

Posted on September 7th, 2020

This year will be a slightly different Flu campaign to previous years due to the pandemic.

To allow for social distancing and a one way flow of patients, we will be holding Flu clinics at the High Street Methodist Church during October.

All patients that have been previously eligible for a free Flu vaccination from the surgery (anyone over 65, anyone under 65 with a health condition that puts them at a higher risk of complications from flu, anyone who is currently pregnant, and 2,3 and 4 year olds) will be invited to have their vaccine with us.

We would like to remind you of the importance of having your vaccine. Flu can, for some patients, be extremely dangerous and by having a large percentage of the population protected we can mitigate the risk and also help NHS services through the difficult winter months, particularly as we await a Covid-19 vaccine.

Patients will be receiving letters in due course – please wait for your letter and where possible attend on the day and time slot stated – this will help us to organise and manage numbers to allow for a safe vaccination programme. We will also have some clinics scheduled in during the week.

We do not have our vaccines as yet. When we receive them, we will be prioritising those patients that are resident in Care Homes, and those that are elderly and housebound.

Please click the link – NHSE Briefing for patients on flu eligibility regarding the Government’s plan to increase the cohort for this year to the 50-64s – we will update this cohort of patients nearer the time, but for reasons we hope you will understand, priority has to be given to those deemed to be at higher risk of complications from flu.
