COVID-19 Booster Update from the Patient Liaison Group

Posted on October 26th, 2021

COVID BOOSTER VACCINATION NEWS

“The Covid booster vaccine is not just some sort of add on. It’s a really critical part of maintaining immunity. And if we don’t maintain that level of immunity, then we will see infections translate into more hospital admissions and, unfortunately, more deaths.”

Dr Stephen Powis, NHS Medical Director

More than 50,000 new Covid cases are being reported every day in the UK, and there are nearly a thousand Covid-related deaths every week.  For these reasons, we can’t emphasise enough how vitally important it is for patients who are eligible for the booster to have the vaccination when it is offered.

King George & Manor House Surgeries, in partnership with our Primary Care Network (Stevenage South PCN) have already contacted patients aged 70 and over and we are arranging appointments for them. Now the PCN is in the process of inviting patients in the 65 to 69 age range and, especially, those aged 16 to 64 with a health condition that puts them at high risk from COVID-19, together with their adult carers or household members. You may have received a text message to book your appointment directly online.  Our Vaccination clinics are held at Shephall Health Centre, Ridlins End, Shephall SG2 9QZ.

If you are in one of the above cohorts and you haven’t been contacted by the PCN, you can get in touch with the surgery now, or contact the PCN Clinic Co-ordinators via 07535697626 and ask for a Covid booster vaccination appointment.

It is also possible to get your Covid booster at a vaccination centre such as Robertson House, Stevenage, SG1 2FQ if you are aged 50 or over or if you have a chronic health condition provided that – and this is very important – it has been at least six months (182 days) since you had your second dose of the vaccine.

Appointments can be made online at https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/book-or-manage-a-booster-dose-of-the-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine/ or by phoning 119.

You can also find walk-in times at https://covid.healthierfuture.org.uk/events/vaccination-walk-in-clinic-times

If you are eligible for a Covid booster vaccination, and haven’t already made an appointment, do it now! Protect yourself and protect the NHS and its vital services.
